Herbs to 3 cm. Stems: internodes congested. Leaves: rosettes 1–3 cm, usually with 2 minute leaves proximally; blade spatulate, 3–10 × 1–2 mm, usually red-punctate in rows, surfaces glabrous. Pedicels 0.5–3 mm. Flowers: calyx 2–3 mm diam., sepals 1–1.5 mm; petals 0–0.4 mm. Capsules 1.3–1.6 mm. Seeds 0.2–0.3 mm, reticulate; endosperm absent. 2n = 46.

Flowering spring. Damp mineral soils, sandy ditches, granitic outcroppings, sandy or gravely substrates, disturbed areas; 0–300 m; Ala., Ark., Fla., Ga., La., Miss., N.C., Okla., S.C., Tex.; e Mexico; South America (Chile, Uruguay).

Lepuropetalon spathulatum is among the smallest terrestrial angiosperms (D. R. Morgan and D. E. Soltis 1993).
