Basal leaf blades: margins strongly crisped. Petals 12-20 mm. 2n = 28.
Flowering mid-late spring. Rocky crevices and substrates, sometimes in open woodlands; 100-400 m; Calif., Oreg.
Variety howellii is more or less peripheral in distribution to var. cotyledon and generally is found at lower elevations.
