Basal leaves: petiole broadly winged; blade narrowly ob-lanceolate, usually 0.5-1.5 cm broad, apex acute, ± glabrous except for ciliate margins. Calyces 18-22 mm, with long, straight, nonglandular pubescence, hairs spreading to retrorse, white, soft. Capsules ca. 10 mm. 2n = 48.
Flowering spring. Open, usually calcareous woods; 0-500 m; Ala., Kans., Ky., Mo., Ohio, Va.
