Leaves awned, costa excurrent in most leaves as a hyaline hair point.

Capsules mature spring-summer. Soil, tundra, rocky areas; moderate to high elevations (600-2200 m); Greenland; Alta., B.C., Man., N.W.T., Nunavut, Yukon; Alaska, Calif., Utah; Europe; n Asia.

Apparently less common than the typical variety, Stegonia latifolia var. pilifera may occur in mixture with it. The hair point may be as long as the leaves, but varies in length and may be lacking in some leaves.
