Zygodon menziesii is distinguished from all other species of Zygodon in the flora area by its smooth laminal cells. This species is retained in Zygodon, but it probably belongs in a separate genus, Codonoblepharon Schwagrichen. In the flora area, Z. menziesii is known only from the San Francisco area.
