Cauline leaves loosely arranged, blade narrowly linear. Fruit valves: trichomes sessile.
Flowering Apr-Jun. Sandy and gravelly soil, stream banks, base of granitic cliffs, sagebrush and grassy slopes, pine woods; 100-1400 m; B.C.; Idaho, Mont., Oreg., Wash.
Subspecies douglasii appears to be restricted mainly to river valleys.
