Leaf blades ovate or spatulate, margins sinuate. Flowers: petals sometimes aborted or reduced to bristles. Fruits 4-angled; terminal segment turbinate or 4-angled, 12-26 × 3-9 mm, apex usually acute or blunt, rarely retuse.
Varieties 2 (2 in the flora): North America; introduced in e Asia (Japan), Australia.
