Gulf of St. Lawrence pinweed Gulf of St. Lawrence pinweed

Flowering stems procumbent to ascending, 20–35 cm × 2–4 mm, mostly branching distal to middle. Sepals brown, outer sepals nearly equaling inner. Seeds 4–5(–6), weakly 3-sided and convex or keeled.

Flowering summer; fruiting fall. Coastal sands, open pine woodlands; 0–30 m; N.B., P.E.I.

Variety subcylindrica has a limited distribution on stabilized barrier dunes along the eastern coast of New Brunswick and the northern shore of Prince Edward Island, frequently growing in association with Hudsonia tomentosa. The variety is also known to occur on old dunes in open pine woodlands on Fox and Portage islands in Miramichi Bay, New Brunswick.
