Young branches red to gray. Leaves scattered along branchlets; blade light green abaxially, green adaxially, narrowly elliptic to oblong, 3–7 cm, base acute to rounded, margins finely denticulate, apex acute to rounded, both surfaces short puberulent. Drupes globose.
Flowering Apr–Jun. Chaparral, montane forests; (400–)1000–2200 m; Calif.
