Flowering Feb–May. Open sites, chaparral, oak and pine woodlands; 10–1100 m; Calif.; Mexico (Baja California).
Variety olivaceus occurs in southern California from the Transverse Ranges south through the Peninsular Ranges into northern Baja California.
