Maytenus texana Lundell; Tricerma texanum (Lundell) Lundell
Shrubs 0.2–2 m. Stems decumbent to prostrate. Leaves: petiole 1–3 mm; blade oblong-elliptic to elliptic-obovate, 1.5–4(–6) × 1–2(–3.5) cm, base rounded, margins entire or remotely serrulate, apex obtuse to rounded, sometimes mucronate.
Flowering early spring–summer; fruiting summer–winter. Coastal prairies, marshes, clay or sand-clay mounds, often saline sites; 1–10 m; Tex.; Mexico (Tamaulipas).
In the flora area, var. ovalifolia occurs along the Gulf coast of Texas from Cameron to Nueces counties.
