Leaves: stipular glands present and prominent at nodes throughout plant. Flowers: stamens 5–7 mm; styles 3.6–5.7 mm.
Flowering May–Sep. Open woods and hillsides, often on red cinder soils; 1500–2300 m; Ariz., Tex.; Mexico (Chihuahua, Distrito Federal, Durango, Guanajuato, México, Puebla, Veracruz).
Variety glandulosum occurs on mountain slopes from southern Arizona and western Texas south to Puebla in Mexico (C. M. Rogers 1984).
