Flowers: sepals grayish or purplish; stigmas dark gray. Capsules relatively thin-walled, translucent. 2n = 30.
Flowering Mar–Jun. Sandy, rocky, sometimes calcareous soils; 200–1600 m; N.Mex., Tex.; Mexico (Coahuila).
Variety filifolium occurs in southeastern New Mexico, central and western Texas, and adjacent Mexico.
