Flowers: floral tube 1–2.2 mm; sepals 1.2–3 mm; petals 2.2–4 mm, without red dots at base; style 2.8–5 mm, stigma surrounded by anthers at anthesis. 2n = 14.
Flowering May–Jul. Shallow soil on granite outcrops, Pinus ponderosa forests; 1800–2400 m; Calif.
Subspecies alticola is known from northeastern Fresno County and, possibly, the Merced River region in Mariposa County.
