Herbs or subshrubs, stems branched, slender. Leaves sometimes divided, sessile or petiolate. Heads discoid, usually solitary, sometimes racemosely or paniculately arranged. Florets all tubular. Involucre campanulate, bracts in many series, unequal, imbricate, membranaceous to coriaceous. Receptacle flat, glabrous, rarely villous. Corollas tubular, deeply 5-lobed; anther sagittate at base, tails connate, often laciniate. Styles short bifid, lobes obtuse, reflexed. Achenes obovoid-oblong, many-ribbed, glabrous or hairy, base narrowed. Pappus bristles many, unequal, scabrous.

About 24 species in Afghanistan, Thailand, Japan and China; one species in Taiwan.
