Erect, glabrous or pubescent herbs, stems usually solitary, few branched. Leaves radical and cauline, alternate, linear to ovate, the margins entire or obtusely toothed. Flowers small, white, in terminal racemes or corymbs, the pedicels often bracteate near the middle; calyx-tube adnate to the lower part of ovary, the limb persistent, 5-lobed; corolla subcampanulate, with a staminodes, the filaments short, the anthers ovbtuse to acuminate; ovary globose, the style short; ovules many. Capsules ovoid-globose, 5-valved, longitudinally dehiscent; seeds minute.
One species, China, Japan and Taiwan.
