A perennial, glabrous herb; fragrant when dry; stolon short; stems usually tufted 4-angled, erect, 30-60 cm long, with many branches on the upper part. Leaves alternate, membranaceous, ovate-elliptical, 1-8 cm long, 6-25 mm wide, acute or acuminate atapex, attenuate at base, the margins entire or slightly undulate; petioles 5-10 mm long. Flowers yellow, axillary, with long pedicels, 1.5-3.5 cm long; calyx cleft nearly to base, the lobes ovate to lanceolate, acuminate, 3-4 mm long; corolla rotate, 5-lobed, the lobes acute, 4 mm long; ovary glabrous. Capsules globose, 3-5 mm in diameter, longitudinally dehiscent, green turning brownish, style persistent; seeds many, brown to black.
