An annual herb; stolon short; stems erect, angular, 15-80 cm tall, sparsely branched in upper parts, with minutely glandular-hairs. Leaves alternate, petiolate, elliptical, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 5-10 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, acuminate at apex, attenuate or acuminate at base, entire, green ,palerand with minute dark brown spots beneath. Racemes terminal, to 30 cm long, loosely many-flowered, the bracts acicular, filiform, the pedicels 1-1.5 cm long; flowers white to pinkish, 5-6 mm long; calyx cleft almost to base, the segments lanceolate, acuminate, 3-4 mm long, with glandular dots arranged in line; corolla-lobes suberect, the apex rounded; stamens exserted, filaments inserted on the corolla, with minute glandular hair, 3-3.5 mm long, anthers about 1 mm long; ovary globose, style 3.5-4.5 mm long. Capsules globose, the pistil persistent.

Distributed in Japan, Korea, the Ryukyus, Taiwan, southern Asia and Australia. Taiwan, at low to medium altitudes.
