  • Erigeron aegyptiacus L.

    Annual herbs. Stems thick, erect, 20-60 cm tall, densely villous, branching, branches ascending. Lower cauline leaves withered at anthesis; median cauline leaves many, obovate to oblong-lanceolate, 4-9×1.2-3 cm, apex obtuse or acute, base cuneate, slightly auriculate, unequally pinnatifid to coarsely toothed, tapering to amplexicaul base, densely long villous on both surfaces, appearing grayish green, upper leaves smaller, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, pinnatifid or coarsely toothed. Heads 7-9 mm long, 10-13 mm across, several in terminal corymbs, peduncle 1.5-4.5 cm long, grayish villous. Involucre hemispherical to campanulate, bracts in 3 or 4 series, linear, attenuate-acuminate, margins scarious, green and densely villous in center, outer bracts 1-4 mm long, inner bracts slightly longer, margins scarious. Outer florets numerous, corolla filiform, ca. 2.3 mm long, half as long as style; style 5-5.5 mm long, nearly equalling or slightly shorter than pappus. Disc florets relatively few, corolla tubular, enlarged, 5-lobed, 4.5-5 mm long, puberulent. Achenes oblong, 0.6-1 mm long, compressed, sparsely short pilose, pale brown. Pappus tawny to reddish, 1-seriate, ca. 6 mm long, bristles coherent at base.
