Elephantopus scaber subsp. oblanceolata
Erect herbs; stems 20-45 cm tall, dichotomously branched, strigose-scabrid. Radical leaves chartaceous, oblanceolate-spatulate, 7.5-18.5×2-3.3 cm, apex rounded, base narrowed, short petiolate or subsessile, margins remotely crenate-serrate, strigose-scabrid; cauline leaves scattered, fewer above, oblong to oblanceolate, middle ones 3-8 cm long, upper ones ovate-lanceolate, strigose on both surfaces. Heads in clusters surrounded by cordate leafy bracts, peduncle 1.5-2 cm long, bracts 3, broadly ovate, 10-14×8-10 mm; involucre narrow, 8-9×2 mm, outer 4 bracts 5.5 mm long, inner 4 bracts 8-9 mm long. Florets 4 in a head; corolla 7 mm long, lobes unequal, 2-3 mm long. Achenes hairy, oblong linear, 4 mm long, 0.5 mm wide; pappus bristles 4 or 5, rigid, dilated at base, 4-5 mm long. Chromosome number, 2n = 22 (Peng & Hsu, 1978).

Mainly tropical and subtropical Asia from India to Japan, Malaysia and western Australia. Taiwan, at low elevations in the south, occasional in the north.
