Plant 1-3 m. Rhizome tuberous, aromatic. Leafy-shoot tufted; ligule lanceolate, membranous, 2-3 cm; leaf-blade sessile or subsessile, oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, 30-40 × 5-8 cm, base acute, apex long acuminate, membranous to subcoriaceous, adaxial glabrous, abaxial finely pubescent or thinly hairy, especially along the midrib. Inflorescence spike-like, ellipsoid; bracts persistent, imbricate, ovate, 4.5-5 × 2.5-4 cm, 2-3-flowered per bract. Flowers white and fragrant; calyx tube short, apex 3-dentate, split unilaterally; corolla-tube slender, 8 cm, lobes lanceolate, ca. 5 cm, dorsal lobe spatulate, apex mucronate; lateral staminodes petaloid, oblong-lanceolate, ca. 5 cm; labellum obcordate, 4-6 cm long and wide, white, lightly yellow at base and central line, apex bifid; filament about 3 cm; anther 1.5 cm; stigma yellow to green; ovary sericeous. Capsules trilocular, partially enclosed in persistent bracts, pericarp orange-yellow inside. Seeds many, with sticky red arils.
