Ophrys lancea Thunb. ex Sw.
Plants 20-40 cm tall. Tuberoids ovoid or ellipsoid, 1-3 cm long. Stems slender, 10-20 cm long, with 1 or 2 sheathing scales near base. Leaves 3 or 4, linear or linear-lanceolate, 10-20 cm long, 0.7-1 cm wide, apex acuminate, base narrowed into sheath enclosing stem. Inflorescence 10-20 cm long, with few scales below; bracts lanceolate, 5-9 mm long, pedicel and ovary nearly as long as bracts. Flowers dense, 50 or more, green, ca. 1 cm long; sepals ovate-oblong, 3-4 mm long, 1.2-1.5 mm wide, apex obtuse, mainly 1-nerved; petals narrowly oblong or lanceolate, 3-4 mm long, 0.6-0.8 mm wide, contracted at base; lip spreading, long rectangular, lower part undivided, 3-5 mm long, 1 mm wide, base slightly saccate, obscurely auriculate laterally, upper part deeply 3-lobed, midlobe 0.5 mm long, lateral lobes linear, 2-5 mm long, 0.5 mm wide, often recurved near tip; column ca. 0.6-1 mm long; staminodes whitish, with clavate stalk ca. 0.5 mm long.
