  • Vrydagzynea formosana Hayata

    Stems creeping below, ascending and leafy upward, 10-18 cm tall. Leaves ovate or oblong, apex acute, base cuneate, 2-4 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, wavy at margins, pale green; petiole ca. 1.5 cm long, sheathed at base. Peduncle hairy, 4-8 cm long, with 1-2 sheaths below, sheaths hairy abaxially, rachis 25 cm long; floral bracts ovate-lanceolate, hairy abaxially, ciliate at margins. Flowers nearly unopened; ovary hairy; sepals erect, green and hairy at base, apex white when young, turning yellow when old, 5.8-6 mm long, fleshy and thick at apex, dorsal one ovate, slightly concave, lateral ones obliquely ovate; petals white, obliquely ovate, thickened at apex, shorter than dorsal sepal; lip with an erect blade and pendent spur, blade broadly ovate, 3-4 mm long, bifid at apex, disc elevated and with fine protuberances near center, spur conical-cylindrical, 5-6 mm long, containing 2 stipitate glands ca. 1.5 mm long; column erect, distinctly 3-lobed; anther cordate, quite shorter than rostellum; pollinia 2, each 2-partite; stigmatic lobes erect, shorter than rostellum; rostellum flat, triangular-ovate, greenish toward apex, apex easily detached and forming viscidium, viscidium connected to apices of pollinia through knob on back.
