    Shrub or tree to 5 m tall, twigs fine pubescent with simple hairs, soon glabrescent. Leaves ovate, subentire, 15-30 cm long, 8-15 cm wide, apically acute or acuminate, basally rounded or obtuse, often dimidiate, pubescent; petiole 2-8 cm long. Inflorescences solitary flowers at leaf nodes near the branch apexes; pedicel 2-5 cm long. Flowers large, showy, fragrant, pendulous; calyx broadly tubular, inflated in bud and flower, 9-12 cm long, 3-4 cm across, the 5 lobes 1.5-2 cm long, acute or obtuse; corolla white or yellowish, 25-30 cm long, pendant, tubiform, the tube less than half as wide as the calyx mouth, abruptly expanded above the calyx, the limb sinuate lobed with 5 narrowly lanceolate spreading teeth 10-15 mm long; filaments inserted just below the middle of the tube, sometimes geniculate, pilose near point of insertion, the anthers 25-35 mm long, cohering into a cylindrical tube 4-6 mm across. Fruit fusiform, 20 cm long; seeds 8-12 mm across, rugose.

    Native of South America, widely cultivated in tropical gardens. In Taiwan, occasionally long persistent after cultivation. Not known to fruit in Taiwan.
