台灣秋海棠

Plant terrestrial; evergreen; with very short rhizomes from which upright stems arise, monoecious. Stems 40-200 cm long, to 46 mm across, glabrous. Rhizomes ___cm long, ___ mm across, (hair). Stipules caducous, narrowly ovate, apex acuminate to cuspidate, margins entire, to 27 mm long, 19 mm wide, glabrous. Leaves many, all cauline, often with white spots adaxially, often reddish beneath, herbaceous, asymmetric, lanceolate, undivided, apex acuminate to to caudate, base shallowly cordate, margins irregularly denticulate or serrulate, 6-14 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, remotely scaberulous on both surfaces; venation palmate-pinnate; petiolesto 4 cm long, 4 mm across, glabrous. Inflorescences arise from stem, 5-11 cm long, glabrous; peduncles (inflorescence axis) slender, to 7 cm long, 3 mm across, pendent. Bracts caducous, narrowly triangular, apex acuminate, margins entire, to 21mm long, 9 mm wide, glabrous. Flowers of both sexes pinkish or sometimes white, glabrous. Staminate flowers: tepals 4, outer two obovate to very broadly obovate, 9-18 mm long, 8-17 mm wide, inner two oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, 8-16 mm long, 4-8 mm wide; androecium actinomorphic; stemans 64-91, golf-club shaped, yellow, filaments free, 1..6-2.4 mm long; anthers very narrowly obovoid, 1.9-2.3 mm long, 0.7-0.9 mm across. Pistillate flowers: tepals 5(-6), narrowly obovate to orbicular, unequal, the largest 8-16 mm long, 7-14 mm wide, the smallest 7-15 mm long, 4-8 mm wide; ovary (color) when blooming, inferior, glabrous; styles 3, yellow, free, forked once, 4.5-5.1 mm long; stigmas in a band and spiraled. Fruits capsular, dehiscence, pendent, trigonous, unequally 3-winged, abaxial wing triangular, 12-18 mm long, 10-16 mm wide, lateral wings 4-5 mm long, 11-15 mm wide; locules 3, axile placentation, placental branches 2 per locule.
