腺齒獼猴桃

Actinidia arguta var. rufa (S. & Z.) Maxim.

Climbing shrubs up to 12 m. long; the young shoots rufus-tomentose, branchesglabrous, with prominent lenticels; pith light brown, lamellate. Leaves broadlyovate to oblong ovate or suborbicular, 4-16 cm. long, 3.5-9.5 cm. broad, obtuse tomucronate or long -acuminate at the apex, rounded to less cordate, and sometimesoblique at the base, finely denticulate, glabrous or sparsely scabrous on uppersurface, glabrescent except veins tomentose beneath, the shoots of seedlings alwayswith densely strigose, and bear densely scabrous on both surfaces, midrib concaveabove, raised beneath, lateral veins 6-8 per side, the veinlet obvious, petiolesslender, 2-4 cm. long, sparsely scabrous. Inflorescences axillary cymes, about 4 cm. long, usually solitary, the staminate many- flowered, the pistillate few-folwered,both rusty puberulous or tomentose; flowers white, 1-1.5 cm across; sepals 5, oblong, about 5 mm. long, brown tomentose; petals 5, ovate, about 1 cm. long; stamensmany; ovary ovoid, 6 mm. long, with densely tomentose; styles about 4 mm. long.Fruit ovoid or oblong, 1.5-2.5 cm. long, 1-1.5 cm. across, brownish, spotted.

Japan, Korea and the Ryukyus. Taiwan, newly found in the northern part at medium to high altitudes.
