Plant terrestrial; evergreen; with long creeping rhizomes from which upright stems arise, monoecious. Stems 40-95 cm long, to 18 mm across, glabrous. Rhizomes (color), to ___ cm long, ___ mm across, glabrous. Stipules caducous, ovate to broadly ovate, apex acuminate, margins entire, to 26 mm long, 18 mm wide, glabrous. Leaves many, herbaceous, asymmetric, broadly ovate to orbicular, undivided, apex acuminate to cuspidate, base cordate, margins irregularly denticulate or serrulate, 9-34 cm long, 7-29 cm wide, glabrous adaxially, remotely minutely scaberulous abaxially; venation palmate; petioles 6-24 mm long, to 9 mm across, glabrous or sometimes remotely pilose. Inflorescences arise from stem, 12-40 cm long, glabrous; peduncles (inflorescence axis), to 31 cm long, 5 mm across, erect. Bracts caducous,ovate to broadly ovate, apex acute, margins entire, to 25 mm long, 19 mm wide, glabrous. Flowers of both sexes pale pink or sometimes purplish, glabrous. Staminate flowers: tepals 4, outer two obovate to orbicular, 11-28 mm long, 10-26 mm wide, inner two oblanceolate to obovate, 10-26 mm long, 4-13 mm wide; androecium actinomorphic; stamens 78-142, yellow,golf-club shaped, filaments free, 0.8-2.4 mm long; anthers obovate, 2-2.3 mm long, 1.1-1.5 mm across. Pistillate flowers: tepals 5-6(7), oblanceolate to orbicular, unequal, the largest 9-26 mm long, 8-23 mm wide, the smallest 8-24 mm long, 4-11 mm wide; ovary (color) when blooming, inferior, glabrous; styles 2, yellow, free, forked once, 4.7-5.4 mm long; stigmas in a band and spiraled. Fruits capsular, dehiscence, nodding, (color), trigonous, unequally 3-winged, abaxial wing broadly elliptic to orbicular, to 19-32 mm long, 11-22 mm wide, lateral wings lunate, 4-6 mm long, 9-15 mm wide; locules 2, axile placentation, placental branches 2 per locule.
