Plant terrestrial; evergreen; with very short rhizomes from which upright stems arise, monoecious. Stems purple-red, 45-190 cm long, 37 mm across, glabrous. Rhizomes to ___ cm long, to mm across, glabrous. Stipules caducous, narrowly ovate to ovate, apex acuminate to cuspidate, margins entire, to 29 mm long, 20 mm wide, glabrous. Leaves many, all cauline, dark green above, sometimes with dense, irregularly distributed white-spotted, purple-red beneath, herbaceous, asymmetric, lamceolate to narrowly ovate, undivided, apex acuminate to cuspidate, base cordate, margins irregularly denticulate or serrulate, 9-33 cm long, 5-14 cm wide, remotely scaberulous on both surface; venation palmate-pinnate; petioles purple-red, 6-26 mm long, 5 mm across, glabrous. Inflorescences arise from stem, 6-13 cm long, glabrous; peduncles (inflorescence axis) to 9 cm long, 3 mm across, ascending to pendent. Bracts caducous, narrowly ovate, apex acuminate, margins entire, to 24 mm long, 15 mm wide, glabrous. Flowers of both sexes pinkish or sometimes white, glabrous. Staminate flowers: tepals 4, outer two obovate to very broadly obovate, 7-15 mm long, 6-13 mm wide, inner two oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, 6-14 mm long, 5-11 mm wide; androecium actinomorphic; stemans 64-89, golf-club shaped, yellow, filaments free, 1.2-1.9 mm long; anthers narrowly oblong, 1.9-2.2 mm long, 0.6-0.7 mm across. Pistillate flowers: tepals 5(-6), narrowly obovate to broadly obovate, unequal, the largest 8-14 mm long, 7-13 mm wide, the smallest 7-12 mm long, 3-7 mm wide; ovary (color) when blooming, inferior, glabrous; styles 3, yellow, free, forked once, 4.7-5.4 mm long; stigmas in a band and spiraled. Fruits capsular, dehiscence, pendent, trigonous, unequally 3-winged, abaxial wing triangular, 16-22 mm long, 15-22 mm wide, lateral wings 4-6 mm long, 15-21 mm wide; locules 3, axile placentation, placental branches 2 per locule.
