Cirrhopetalum japonicum Makino
Rhizomes slender, less than 1 mm in diam. Pseudobulbs close or ca. 1 cm apart, globose to ovoid, 812 mm long, 6-8 mm wide. Leaves sessile, linear, 3-8 cm long, 5-12 mm wide, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate. Scapes from base of pseudobulbs, 4-6 cm long, ca. 1 mm in diam., straight or more or less flexuous, remotely 2-scaled toward base; bracts lanceolate, ca. 3 mm long; pedicel and ovary ca. 6 mm long, ovary slightly hirsute or nearly glabrous. Flowers 4 or 5, subumbellate reddish, with dark purple veins, ca. 1 cm long; dorsal sepal ovate-elliptic, 2.5-3 mm long, 2 mm wide, obtuse at apex, truncate at base, 3-nerved; lateral sepals often connate, lanceolate, 5-6 mm long, 2 mm wide, usually incurved, obscurely 3-nerved; petals obovate, 2 mm long, 1 mm wide, rounded at apex, cuneate at base, 3-nerved; lip purplish red, horn-like, 2-3 mm long, truncate and canaliculate at base, upper part attenuate, enlarged into a white callus at apex; column 1.5-2 mm long, apex with short stylids, foot straight, 1.5 mm long; anther conic-operculate, top callus-like, 2-celled; pollinia 2, ellipsoid, easily separating into 2 unequal halves. Capsules fusiform, to 1 cm long.
