Rhizome stout, ascending, covered with persistent stipe bases, scales thin, entire, pale brown to brown, ovate-lanceolate. Stipes 10-18 cm long, stramineous, scaly at base, sparsely scaly upwards; lamina finely dissected, to 25 cm long, by 12 cm wide, lanceolate, trupinnate; rachis stramineous; rachillae narrowly winged; pinnae ascending, with vert short petioles, linear-lanceolate, attenuate; pinnules usually anadromous, cut to costa, lobes ending in sharp teeth; upper surface with long spine-like processes along costules. Sori often covering the entire undersurface when mature and protruding past the narrow lobes of the pinnules; indusia oblong or reniform.
