Herbaceous; ligule membranous; leaf-blades broadly linear, the nerves slanting obliquely from midrib, with cross-nerves and a narrow or falsely petiolate base, this twisted to bring the abaxial side uppermost. Inflorescence a panicle, the spikelet alike. Spikelets 1-flowered without rhachilla extension, dorsally compressed, falling entire; glumes 2, shorter than floret, membranous, lemma membranous, 3-7-nerved, entire; palea resembling lemma but 2-nerved; lodicules 3; stamens 3; stigmas 2, plumose. Grain globose with small apical knob, the thick pericarp softening and peeling away when wet.
Species 1. East Asia, in Japan, Korea and southeastern China.
Waram temperate forest.
