Plant delicate, small, tufted, rooting at the basal nodes. Blade linear, 10-15 cm long, 1-2 mm wide; ligule about 0.3 mm long, fimbriate: Inflorescence a single spike or 2-3 digitate spikes, spike about 7 cm long. Spikelets 2-flowered, sessile, about 4 mm long; glumes membranous, siliceous on back, conspicuously 1-nerved, lanceolate, acute; the lower glumes 1/3 the length of the upper; the upper aristate. Lower floret fertile; lemma subcoriaceous, margins inrolled, 3-nerved, siliceous on back, about 3.5 mm long, minutely 2-toothed, midrib prolonged into an awn, the awn slightly longer than the lemma; palea linear, elliptical, of the same texture and length as the lemma, 2-keeled, siliceous on the upper part. Caryopsis about 3 mm long; embryo 1/3 the length of the caryopsis.

Locally this grass is distributed only in southern Taiwan.
