Perennials; culm 50-100 cm high, villous, slightly woody at base. Blade linear, pubescent, flat, 10- 25 cm long, 7-15 mm wide; sheath margins ciliate; ligule a ring of hairs, ca. 1 mm long. Inflorescence of racemose racemes, racemes 4-7, 2-5 cm long; rachis densely villous, slender. Spikelets pubescent, slightly compressed, broadly ovate, ca. 4.5 mm long, acute at apex; callus ca. 0.5 mm long; upper glume hairy, as long as spikelet, 5-veined; lower lemma similar to upper glume in length and texture, membranaceous, ca. 4.5 mm long; upper lemma obtuse, coriaceous, finely punctate, deep yellow in color.
