Anual culm tufted, erect, the base geniculate or ascending, 3-6-noded; ligule membranous 1-2 mm long, fringed with cilia. Inflorescence a panicle , 10-20 cm long, spikelets racemosely arranged on one side of the primary branches. Spikelets (2-)3-7-flowered, about 2.5 mm long, often purplish; glumes membranous pointed, minute, subequal, 1-nerved; lower glume about 0.8 mm long; upper glume longer, about 1 mm long; lemmas keeled, obtuse, glabrous or somewhat pubescent, 3-nerved; the lowest lemma about 1.5 mm long; palea minute, membranous
2-keeled, apex blunt, about 0.8 mm long; anthers 3, about 0.2 mm long. Caryopsis globose, about 1 mm long.
