Loosely tufted perennial with short knotty rhizome; roots forming spindle-shaped storage enlargements. Culms tufted, erect. Blades lanceolate, petiolae, tessellate veined, covered with long hairs; ligule 0.5 mm long, backside hispid. Panicle loose, outline elliptic, 15-30 cm long, branches 1-3-nate, patent. Spikelets 1 perfect and 3-7 neutral florets, terete, 8.5 mm long, sessile; glumes subcoriaceaous, tessellate nerved; lower glume 4.5 mm long, 5-nerved, apex acute; upper glume 5 mm long, 7-nerved, apex rounded, siliceos, lemma subcoriaceous, 5-5.6 mm long apex obtuse, siliceous, 7-9-nerved, shorlty awned; palea hyaline, lanceolate, 2-keeled, 5-5.5 mm long. Caryopsis 3.5 mm long.
