Culm geniculate, about 1.5 mm across. Blade about 7 cm long by 7 mm wide, nearly glabrous; ligule tongue-like, hispid on the back, about 1.4 mm long; sheath glabrous. Racemes 5-6, subdigitately arranged, about 5-6 mm long. Spikelets paired, monomorphic, the upper pedicellate, the lower sessile, about 3.2 mm long, longer than the rachis-joint. Lower glume subcoriaceous, lanceolate, 2-keeled, ciliate along keels, furrowed on the back, as long as the spikelet; upper glume deltoid-lanceolate, 1-keeled, keel ciliate, margins inrolled, fimbriate, tipped with a slender awn nearly as long as the glume; lower lemma sometimes present, linear, hyaline, 1-nerved, ending in a long slender awn of about 8 mm long. Upper floret minute; lemma about 0.2 mm long, with a flexuous awn of about 15 mm long; palea chartaceous, ovate, with a sinus or irregular at the apex, about 0.5 mm long.
