Perennials; culms weak and slender, sometimes small and somewhat stiff. Blades usually flat, linear; ligule membranous. Inflorescence an open panicle, branches loose, whorled. Spikelets 1-flowered, flat, ariculating from the base of the floret; glumes slightly or exremely unequal; lower glume sometimes nearly reduce; upper glume shorter than the floret,infolded, acute, broadly laneolate; lemmas green, infolded, broadly lanceolate, acute, and punctate, 5-nerved, awnless, glabrous; callus short, short tuft hairy; rachilla slender, glabrous; palea nearly as long as the lemma, with 2 close nerved; stamens 3; ovary glabrous. Caryopsis slender, free, not united with the lemma and palea, the embryo small.

About four species distributed in Japan, China, Malaysia and India.
