Sorghum nitidum f. nitidum

Culm solid, erect, about 2 mm in diameter. Blade linear, up to 35 cm long by 6 mm wide, basal part densely ciliate; ligule about 1.2, mm long, chartaceous, ciliate on the back. Spikelets paired, dimorphic; the upper pedicelled, lanceolate, 2/3 the width of the sessile spikelet, pubescent all over; the lower sessile, broadly lanceolate, about 4 mm long. Glumes coriaceous, as long as the spikelet; the lower broadly lanceolate, densely ciliate on the back and margins, 3-5-nerved, margins inrolled; the upper lanceolate, boat-shaped, margins inrolled, densely ciliate on upper part, basal part shining, brownish, 3-5-nerved, Lower floret reduced to a lemma of about 3 mm long, subchartaceous, lanceolate, margins fimbriate and inrolled. Upper floret the same texture; lemma 2 mm long; palea minute; lodicules 2, about 0.4 mm long, truncate, ciliate at the apex.

Distributed in India, Ceylon, Burma, extending through Thailand, Vietnam and China to Australia.
