Note: Cyperus compactus Lam. is an illegitimate name - it has an earlier homonym, C. striatulus Vahl is a nom. nov. for C. compactus Lam., and was published simultaneously with C. obtusiflorus Vahl. The type of C. striatulus is the only specimen of this taxon in the P-LA collected by Commerson, although Vahl also cited a duplicate of this collection in the P-JU and is considered to be a isotype. However, C. obtusiflorus Vahl is also apparently based on a collection in the P-LA and the only possible specimen currently present is the type of C. striatulus mentioned above, although it bears no annotation to the effect that it is the type of C. obtusiflorus. In addition to the isotype present in P-JUSS, 3 other duplicates of the Commerson collection are present in P. All 5 sheets are remarkably similar, bearing both well-developed and diminutive, but otherwise very similar individuals.
