About 40 species in Europe, northern Africa and West Asia. In the FSU about 15 species, most in the Caucasus.
S. armenum Boiss. et Huet. and S. transcaucasicum Muirhead. are also of value. The Lesser Caucasus, rocky slopes. Rosettes do not produce many stolons. Flowering stem short. Flowers yellow green. Excellent plants for the rock garden. Z 5 (4).
