Rootstock and rhizome short, thickened. Leafy stems erect 40-60 cm. Leaves dark green, 8-11 x 4-5 cm, entire, oblong, basal ones heart-shaped. Inflorescence apical, almost umbel-like. Flowers violet, large. Calyx persists in fruit and become 2-3 times larger. V - mid spring to mid autumn. Fl - mid spring, usually May, for one month. Fr - June. P - by seed. Good for the rock garden. Requires a sunny position and well-drained soil. Dry resistant. Ornamental in flower and in fruit. Z 4 (3). New. 
 
 
 
Caucasus (the Greater Caucasus, western and eastern Transcaucasus, Dagestan), Central Asia (Syr Darya) and northeastern Turkey.
