Trees to 25 m tall; bark brown or gray-brown, fissured. Branchlets yellow-brown, sparsely pubescent. Petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade ovate-elliptic, elliptic, or oblong-lanceolate, 5-14 × 2-7 cm, papery, abaxially densely resinous punctate, villous along veins, bearded in axils of lateral veins, adaxially glabrous, base rounded or subcordate, sometimes asymmetric, margin irregularly and doubly minutely serrate, apex acuminate or caudate-acuminate; lateral veins 12-14 on each side of midvein. Female inflorescence 1, erect, oblong or oblong-cylindric, 2.5-6 × 1.2-2.5 cm; peduncle 2-3 mm; bracts 0.8-1.3 cm, densely pubescent and ciliate, 3-lobed, middle lobe oblong-lanceolate, lateral lobes spreading, oblong, ca. 1/2 as long as middle lobe. Nutlet narrowly elliptic or oblong-obovate, 4-5 × ca. 2 mm, with membranous wings ca. 1/2 as wide as nutlet. Fl. May-Jun, fr. Jun-Aug.
