Plants stout, often clambering. Stems 20-70 cm, much branched, villosulous or hirtellous, ± retrorsely aculeolate. Leaf blade often larger, oblanceolate-oblong, mostly ± hirsute and with margins retrorsely aculeolate. Inflorescences large, with many-flowered cymes. Corolla lobes filamentous-aristate. Ovary and fruit glabrous and smooth, verrucose, or rarely with uncinate trichomes. Fl. and fr. Jun-Sep.
