Plants to 90 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, robust, 1-1.5 cm in diam. at base, nodes swollen, with few supporting roots, long naked in lower part, branched in upper part; branches spreading, slender. Leaves alternate, shortly petiolate. Lower leaves with petiole stout, 0.5-1.5(-3.5) cm; leaf blade ovate or obovate-oblong, 8-12(-15) × 3-5 cm, thinly membranous, lateral veins 6 or 7(or 8) pairs, midvein and lateral veins abaxially conspicuous, base cordate or rounded, margin coarsely crenate, teeth emarginate or rounded, apex obtuse. Upper leaves subsessile or very shortly petiolate; leaf blade yellow-green abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate-oblong, ca. 5 × 2.5 cm. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 3- or 4-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, 1.5-3 cm, slender. Pedicels 1-2 cm, bracteate below flower; bracts persistent, ovate-lanceolate, 3-4 mm. Flowers yellow or pink-white, ca. 2.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate, 1-1.2 cm, membranous, 8- or 9-veined, midvein fine, apex acuminate, cuspidate. Lower sepal subglobose or cup-shaped, large, abruptly narrowed into an incurved spur; mouth vertical, ca. 2.5 cm wide, tip acuminate. Upper petal orbicular, ca. 1.3 cm in diam., abaxial midvein broadly cristate; lateral united petals not clawed, short, ca. 2.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes dolabriform, longer, apex long narrowed; auricle rounded. Filaments linear; anthers obtuse. Ovary fusiform. Capsule linear, 3.5-5 cm. Seeds many, obovoid or oblong, ca. 2.5 mm, tuberculate. Fl. Aug-Sep.
