Plants annual, 30-90 cm tall. Stem erect, succulent, smooth, branched. Leaves alternate; petiole 2-4 cm; leaf blade ovate, elliptic, or oblong, 5-10 × 3-6 cm, basal margin with few glands, lateral veins 5-8 pairs, base narrowly cuneate, margin coarsely crenate-serrate, apex caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences axillary, racemose, 3-5-flowered; peduncles short, 2-3 cm, slender. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, slender, bracteate at base; bracts lanceolate, small, 1-2 mm, herbaceous. Flowers white, red striate, large, 4-5 cm deep. Lower sepal saccate, base narrowed into an incurved, short spur. Upper petal orbicular, abaxial midvein carinate; lateral united petals 1-1.4 cm, stipitate, 2-lobed; distal lobes dolabriform, large, apex obtusely rounded; basal lobes elliptic, apex obtuse; auricle inflexed, suborbicular. Anthers obtuse or ?acute. Capsule fusiform. Seeds orbicular, smooth. Fl. Jun-Jul, fr. Jul-Sep. 2n = 40*.
