Shrubs, scandent. Young branches and buds silvery brown scaly. Petiole 8-12 mm; leaf blade adaxially green, abaxially only slightly paler than adaxial surface, broadly elliptic to orbicular, 4-8 × 2.5-6 cm, leathery, abaxially glabrescent, midrib flat, lateral veins 6 or 7 per side of midrib, apex obtuse to rounded. Flowers solitary, rarely paired, sometimes somewhat crowded on short, lateral, flowering shoots. Pedicel ca. as long as calyx. Flowers yellow. Calyx tube 7-8 mm; lobes triangular-ovate, 4-6 mm. Filaments 1.8-2 mm; anthers narrowly elliptic, 2.2-2.5 mm. Stigma 2-3 mm, glandular-papillate. Drupe pale red, broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid, 1.8-2 cm. Seed 1.6-1.8 cm.
● Very rare, in thickets; 100-1000 m. S Taiwan.
Elaeagnus ohashii was published as a nomen novum on the incorrect assumption that E. formosensis had to be treated as a later homonym of E. formosana.
