● Forests, forest margins, grasslands, field margins on slopes of hills; 1700-2400 m. SE Xizang (Bomi, Zayü).

The name Polygala khasiana Hasskarl was misapplied to this species by S. K. Chen (in C. Y. Wu, Fl. Xizang. 3: 55. 1986).

Although Polygala bomiensis is very similar to P. japonica, the key difference is that the filaments are united in the lower 3/4 in P. bomiensis but fully united into an opening tube in P. japonica with the anthers sessile.
