Description from Flora of China
Herbs perennial. Leaves opposite. Inflorescences spicate, pedunculate. Flowers hermaphroditic, solitary in axils of bracts. Tepals 5, slightly rigid after anthesis, 5-veined. Stamens 5, subulate; pseudostaminodes triangular, very small. Styles short; stigmas capitate. Utricles irregularly circumscissile (bursting). Seeds black, nearly reniform, verrucose (tuberculate).
Two species; China, Malaysia, Thailand; one species in China.
