Plants 20--30 cm tall, glabrous. Stems branched. Petiole 3--6 cm; leaf blade 3-ternate, 4.5--9.5 cm; leaflet blade narrowly ovate to orbicular-ovate, 0.5--2.3 × 0.2--1.4 cm, papery or thinly leathery, base cuneate, rounded, or subcordate, apex roundedor acute, 3-lobed or 1-toothed; veins inconspicuous. Inflorescence cymose, flat topped, few flowered. Pedicel 1.6--5 cm. Sepals 4, pinkish, narrowly ovate, 13--20 × 5--10 mm. Stamens many, ca. 5 mm; filament filiform; anther narrowly oblong, ca. 3 mm, apex inconspicuously mucronate. Carpels ca. 40; style ca. 1.5 mm, equaling ovary. Achenes shortly stipitate; body fusiform, ca. 5 mm; veins 6--8. Fl. Aug--Oct.

This species is similar to Thalictrum foeniculaceum, but differs in having ovate, entire leaflets and many shortly stipitate achenes.
