Shrubs, deciduous, ca. 2 m tall. Branches gray, terete, sparsely black verruculose; shoots dark pale red; spines simple, weak, concolorous, 1-1.5 cm. Petiole 1-5 mm; leaf blade abaxially yellow-green, adaxially dark green, obovate, 1-3.5 × 0.7-1.5 cm, papery, abaxially not pruinose, midvein obviously raised, adaxially with flat midvein, lateral veins 3 or 4 pairs, both surfaces with conspicuous reticulate veins, base cuneate, margin entire, occasionally 2- or 3-spinose-serrate on each side, apex obtuse. Inflorescence a panicle, 15-20-flowered, 3-5 cm; rachis flexuose, glabrous; bracts 1-1.5 mm. Pedicels 2-4 mm, glabrous; bractlets oblong, ca. 2 mm, apex acute. Sepals in 3 whorls; outer sepals oblong, ca. 3.5 × 2.5 mm, apex acute; median sepals oblong-elliptic, ca. 4.3 × 3.5 mm; inner sepals obovate, ca. 6 × 5 mm. Petals obovate, ca. 5 × 3.8 mm, base clawed, with remote glands, apex slightly emarginate, lobes acute. Stamens ca. 3 mm; anther connective slightly prolonged, shortly apiculate. Ovules 1 or 2(or 3). Berry purplish red, oblong or ovoid-oblong, 6-9 × 3-4 mm, slightly blue pruinose, style not persistent. Fl. Jun-Jul, fr. Aug-Oct.
